Employee Recognition, Global Recycling & Earth Day 2024

Today is Global Recycling Day! Did you know our bottles and cans are made to be remade? We work every day to promote and increase the recycling of our beverage packages. We do this by investing in new recycling technology (like our Reverse Vending Machines), working with our municipalities and customers to expand recycling programs and educating our communities on the importance of recycling.

Coke Florida - RVM IG Post 2.jpg

Last night, we were honored to celebrate our associates who have devoted 40 or more years of service to Coke Florida. These associates and their loved ones came together at our first annual Honorary Service Award Dinner to share stories, laughter and the kind of camaraderie that only decades of shared experiences can foster. Their commitment to Coke Florida has made a lasting imprint on our culture and the company's success.

Thank you to the associates and their loved ones for your devotion to Coke Florida, and congratulations on this impressive milestone!

Earth Day is recognized globally on April 22, but we're celebrating all month long. Last week, we kicked off our Earth Month celebrations with two cleanup events in partnership with Keep Lee County Beautiful and Keep Brevard Beautiful, Inc. Together, we rolled up our sleeves and made a positive impact on our communities. Every effort counts in preserving our beautiful planet, from cleanups to tree plantings.

Stay tuned for more exciting events and initiatives throughout April! #EarthMonth #Sustainability

Press Release

Coca-Cola Beverages Zero Waste to Landfill Certification

75% of Coke Florida’s Manufacturing Facilities Are GreenCircle Certified

Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, LLC (Coke Florida) announces that its Broward Manufacturing Facility has obtained GreenCircle’s Zero Waste to Landfill certification.

Coke Florida is the local Florida bottler with exclusive sales and distribution in 47 counties across the state. It operates manufacturing facilities in Tampa, Orlando, Broward (Hollywood), and Jacksonville. The Broward certification moves the company to having 75% of its manufacturing facilities holding a GreenCircle certification. The Tampa manufacturing facility was the first location certified in 2019 followed by the Orlando manufacturing facility in 2021.

Coke Florida has demonstrated its commitment to a sustainable future by reinforcing its efforts to reduce, reuse, recover, and renew. These efforts include making packaging more sustainable, working to minimize water use, and reducing its carbon footprint.

“Coke Florida’s commitment to reducing waste is not new,” shared Erin Black, Vice President, Sustainability, Risk Management, and Facilities for Coke Florida. “In fact, the large majority of the waste produced at Broward was already being recycled. GreenCircle’s comprehensive evaluation process provides transparency that validates our commitment to a World Without Waste.”

GreenCircle Certified, LLC was established to ensure specificity in third-party certification after encountering many unsubstantiated claims in the marketplace. GreenCircle's rigorous evaluation process provides independent verification that claims of sustainable aspects of products and operations are valid.

“We have been certifying Coke Florida since 2019 and we commend their ongoing commitment to transparency and continuous improvement,” stated Michelle Bonanno, Director of Operations at GreenCircle. “Coke Florida’s Broward Manufacturing facility is one of three Coke Florida facilities that have achieved this milestone, in just three years, making them a leader in their industry.”

GreenCircle’s Zero Waste to Landfill certification evaluates all waste leaving the site, which includes packaging and manufacturing waste generated before a product reaches shelves. Coke Florida has also been committed to reducing pre-consumer waste. This waste stream can make a much greater impact, in both volumes and varieties, than most consumers realize.

Employee eNewsletter

The Daily Breif

The Daily is the primary outlet for communicating with all City of Gainesville employees including those at GRU. I was responsible for rebranding and redesigning the newsletter as it originally only reached GRU employees. I created something that incorporated the city's newsletter and ours (which I also designed) so that every employee could find important information all in one place.

Marketing Collateral

Environmental Protection Campaign

The goal of this project was to design a fun compelling ad campaign that encouraged our customers to keep these "criminals" out of the pipes to protect the environment and prevent wastewater spills. The characters were designed collaboratively as a team, and I developed and executed the art concept, design and overall strategy for the campaign.

Student Rush Campaign

Student Rush is an annual campaign designed to encourage incoming students to sign up for their utility services online. The summer months are the busiest time of year in customer service and it was my goal to alleviate the workload of the customer service reps by promoting our online services. As a result, we had 62% more signups online than in the previous year.

Groundwater Recharge Wetland Park

GRU's Recharge Wetland Reaches Milestone

GRU moved a step closer to constructing a groundwater recharge wetland park in southwest Gainesville last week when the City Commission unanimously approved the utility’s ranking of the teams who submitted proposals to design and build the wetland.

This is the latest significant milestone in the construction of the wetland. GRU will initiate contract negotiations with the top-ranked design-build firm, Wharton-Smith, Inc. After a contract is executed, GRU and the design-build team will begin collaboration workshops with project partners, community stakeholders and our neighbors on the design of the park.

First initiated in 2021 with the purchase of 75 acres off Parker Road, the wetland park is a collaborative project with cost-share partners the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), as well as Alachua County, who will manage public access to the park.

The wetland park will reduce our community's environmental footprint, increase our capacity to beneficially reuse water and help support flows in the Santa Fe and Ichetucknee rivers and their springs. Along with the environmental benefits, the park will also provide a beautiful space for the community to enjoy educational opportunities. The wetland is expected to be completed in 2025.

“We are excited about reaching this important milestone and the expertise this design-build team brings,” said GRU Engineer and Utility Designer Kristen Sealey. “We look forward to creating this project collaboratively with the team, our project partners and community stakeholders.”

Website Creation

WordPress

I created this website for a former client, AAPA, to showcase all of their media opportunities in which both local and international businesses could advertise in. For this project, I transitioned a traditional PDF media kit into a web-based version to streamline the process. Ad rates would automatically update, which significantly reduced errors in pricing.
